The following is an interview conducted by Marlise, a student from Mr. Corley's Canadian History class in March, 2008. Marlise's grandfather is Richard John Cornish Toone. Mr. Toone was born on April 13, 1915 in the small town of Maryfield, Saskatchewan. He is the third child of Emma Acock and John Reginald Toone. Richard, more commonly known as Jack had one sister by the name of Mabel that died at three months old. Jack’s other sister; Olive was three years older than Jack and was born in 1912. Olive died on December 16, 1995. Jack currently resides in Winnipeg with his wife Alice Toone and enjoys spending time with his children, grand-children and great-grand-children. Episode #10 features Dr. Vivienne Rowan. Dr. Rowan recently completed a six-month volunteer position in Indonesia with Medicins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders). MSF is one of the few non-governmental organizations that provide mental health to survivors of civil war and natural disasters. In this talk recorded on Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, Dr. Rowan spoke about her experience with local and national mental health workers and the treatment programs she developed for the thousands of civilians (many women and young girls) caught in the aftermath of the tsunami and Indonesia's thirty-year conflict. This is an audio recording of a presentation given by Mr. Harold Bastable, a Canadian World War II veteran who spoke at the Vincent Massey Remembrance Day commemoration. Mr. Bastable was a crew member on a Halifax bomber and was shot down over occupied France.
